What is the WireWarning® Detection feature? What does it mean when I'm using a stud finder?
Many Zircon stud finders have the WireWarning® Detection feature, which is always on (except in AC Scan mode) and continuously senses for live, unshielded AC wires up to 2 in. deep and within a one-foot circumference behind the wall.
WireWarning® is NOT intended to pinpoint AC wires but instead designed to warn users that live AC is present behind the wallboard. Once alerted, the user can turn off the particular breaker supplying AC to that area of the building if they feel that is the safe thing to do.
If you suspect wires and your stud finder fails to identify them, it's always a good bet to TURN OFF the power to all circuits that could be running through the wall. A little extra precaution could be all it takes to avoid a dangerous accident.
